Patrick Oaten receives the 2005 Jack Donohue "Coach of the Year" Award

November 9, 2005 - Patrick Oaten is the recipient of the 2005 Jack Donohue “Coach of the Year” Award. This award is presented annually in recognition of a coach’s dedication to the profession of coaching and the outstanding performance of their athletes during the past competitive season.

"Patrick embodies all the wonderful things that Jack Donohue stood for. He is passionate about coaching; he values and develops each athlete’s unique skills and leadership abilities; and he challenges both his veteran athletes and neophytes to be better persons in and out of the pool”, said Dave Johnson, Swimming Coach and President of the Executive Committee of the CPCA.

Patrick Oaten became Head Coach of the Canadian Women’s Water Polo Team almost three years ago. The Team’s outstanding performance at last summer’s XI FINA World Championships won them a bronze medal victory over Russia in their final game. Since becoming a national coach in 1997, Patrick has masterminded a Pan American Games silver medal, the 2003 junior world championship, and the 2005 world bronze, along with the 2002 Commonwealth Championship silver medal and a seventh-place finish in the Athens Olympic Games.
