Coaches of Canada mourns the loss of Frank Reynolds

Frank Reynolds, the senior middle and long distance coach with the NorWesters Track and Field Club and Coaches of Canada member passed away in his sleep on December 28th following a two-year battle with cancer.

During his own running career, Frank managed to set a Canadian record in the 4x400 meter relay and in 1981 became the Canadian masters 800 meters champion.

Frank was most celebrated in his role as a coach.  His abilities were most prevalent when coaching developing athletes.  Frank had an excellent understand of how to develop not only the abilities of his athletes but the athletes as young adults.  His training methods focused on training the process rather than the outcome. As a result, he was praised by former athletes as someone that could develop great citizens in addition to great athletes.

In 2003, Frank was named the Coach of the Year at the North Shore Sport Awards.  In 2005, he was honored by Sport BC with the president’s award for his work with the Coaches Association of B.C. and B.C. Blind Sports

During his extensive coaching career Frank participated on a number of national team assignments including work with the Canadian team at the International Blind Sports Association World championships and the World Half-Marathon Championships.

Coaches of Canada has passed along its sincerest condolences on behalf of coaches to Frank’s family.  Donations can be made on behalf of Frank to the oncology department at the Lions Gate Hospital (www.lghfoundation.com).
