This was a great tournament for the Ontario players. Each player contributed to the team’s success throughout the weekend and especially on Sunday during the semi-final and final games. At one point Ontario was down by five runs to Quebec #2 in the semi final game and they rallied back to win 7-5.
In the gold medal game, the score was tied 0-0 through 10 innings. When Quebec #1 scored two runs in the top of the 11th, Ontario responded with two in the bottom of the 11th. After shutting down Quebec #1 in the top of the 12th, Ontario responded with a bases-loaded single to win the game. Before the traditional celebrations, there were a few seconds of silence on the field after the winning run crossed the plate as the players seemed to not realize the marathon game was suddenly over!
The Ontario team would like to thank all of the volunteers from Baseball Nova Scotia that contributed to the success of this tournament. They would also like to extend their gratitude to Howie Birnie, Arif Elmazi, Jack Brown and all of the coaches and players of the Toronto Baseball Association, who have made it possible for this team to develop their skills in the TBA Midget League over the past two seasons.
