Coaches of Canada Applauds Government's Support of Sport Canada
“Leadership by coaches is a critical part of the Canadian sport enterprise,” said Wayne Parro, Executive Director of Coaches of Canada. “With one act of leadership today, the federal government stood up for a coach-led Canadian sport system from playground to podium.”
Similar comments resonate throughout the sport community today following yesterday’s Federal Budget as presented by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. The message to the sport community is clear: there is support for the growth of high performance sport in Canada.
Coaches of Canada recognizes that success in high performance sport inspires Canadians to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We support the development of excellence in coaching at all levels of sport in Canada. As the voice of the profession of coaching, Coaches of Canada sees a bright future for the continued professional development of coaches at all levels as a result of the infusion of funds into the Canadian sport system.
With an additional $8 million in funding this year, $16 million next year and $24 million each year thereafter, this is clearly the beginning of a brighter future for athletes and coaches in Canada!
