The inaugural presentation of the Sheila Robertson Award has been awarded to the Canadian Yachting Association in recognition of their consistent approach in promoting and valuing the role of the coach within their organization, the media and the public. Tracy Terry accepted the award on behalf of the CYA at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference in Quebec City on November 11, 2005.
"The CPCA is delighted to dedicate this important award to Sheila Robertson ", said Gail Donohue, Director of Sport Development (Sport BC) and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the CPCA. "Sheila's commitment and leadership in recognizing the work of Canadian coaches was evident in her role as editor of Coaches Report. The Canadian Yachting Association's consistent recognition of coaches has won them the Sheila Robertson Award for 2005".
About the CPCA The Canadian Professional Coaches Association is a national non-profit organization that provides services to career coaches, applies research to public policy initiatives in sport, and connects Canada's community of coaches through active communications. As coaches are public leaders in Canadian sport and society, the CPCA strives to develop, to protect and to promote the leadership abilities of coaches and the public interest through a code of ethics, self-regulation, professional development programs, mentorship and public engagement initiatives."
“It was an honor to accept the Sheila Robertson aware on behalf of the Canadian Yachting Association on front of our sport peers and partners at the Sport Leadership Conference awards banquet. Sheila Robertson was unfortunately not in attendance, as she was in Australia with her husband making preparations for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The Sheila Robertson award not only honors CYA's achievements in valuing the role of the coach through the public and media, it honors Sheila's commitment to promoting sport. Sheila was the editor and one of the founders of the 'coaches' report' (http://www.coach.ca/e/coaches_report/index.htm). Sheila invested 12 years promoting spot through the Coaches' Report and is, by all accounts, a respected and admired role model. The CYA would like to thank the Coaches Association of Canada, CPCA, and Sheila for the honor of being the inaugural recipients of the Sheila Robertson Award.” Tracy Terry, CYA Vice President Training
