Feedback provided to Coaches
of Canada from our membership, on-site Games assessments and
consultations with other Canadian coaches provided the basis for
development of the 5 pillars of focus at major games:
Coach Standards To ensure that all Team Canada Coaches have achieved a
minimum standard of education, certification and experience and to
provide a uniform Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics
Coach Support
Due to the diversity of locations and the demands for
facilities the availability of vital services for coaches cannot always
be ensured. Coaches of Canada will work to ensure that coaches have
suitable business facilities, video replay and analysis facilities, and
an additional private area for coaches to network at a major games.
Coach Performance
In a Games environment the performance of the coach is
often overlooked, however, it may have a large impact on the
performances of their athletes. Coaches of Canada strives to work in
conjunction with the coaches in order to ensure that they are operating
to their full potential.
Communication
Coaches of Canada strives to ensure that coaches are
included when communication plans for each major games are established.
This will provide the opportunity for the media to tap into the
effective communication skills of coaches, to profile coaches in
addition to the athletes and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the
athlete-coach partnership.
'Coach House'
A physical coach centered location on-site at Games where
coaches can decompress without the distraction of daily business and
the other activities of village and Games life. This area will be
staffed with support personnel specific to the needs of the coach
(mentors, counselors, etc.)
