By-laws

The membership of Coaches of Canada voted to accept the amendments to the corporate by-laws at the corporation's annual general meeting on November 2, 2006 in Vancouver, BC. The amended letters patent are pending approval by Industry Canada. According to Robert's Rules of Order the corporation, upon receiving approval on the amendments from the membership, may begin to act in accordance with the newly accepted amended by-laws. The new by-laws are now available, and the affected areas of governance are also updated.

The objects of Corporation are...

  • to protect and serve the public interest through regulation of the quality and ethical aspects of the practice of professional coaching;
  • to protect the character and status of members of the profession and conserve the right of those engaged in the profession of coaching;
  • to develop, co-ordinate and provide services to coaches including networking, communication, legal, representation, contractual and other support services agreed to by the membership;
  • to organize and promote educational and professional development opportunities for coaches;
  • to represent members and the interests of coaches before federal, provincial and territorial governments and their agencies, non-government organizations, and public forums;
  • to promote the profession of coaching in all forms of athletic endeavour and to foster and achieve improvement and standardization of the working conditions of professional coaches;
  • to advance the profession of coaching through research, study and information sharing; for the furtherance of the objects aforesaid, to develop products and services and to publish literature and to merchandise and distribute said items;
  • to acquire by purchase, lease, devise, gift or otherwise, real property, and to hold such real property or interest therein necessary for the actual use and occupation of the Corporation or for carrying on or its charitable undertaking and, when no longer necessary, to sell, dispose of and convey the same or any part thereof;
  • to acquire, hold, sell, manage, lease, mortgage, dispose of or otherwise deal with real and personal property of the Corporation;
  • to do all other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objects of the Corporation.
